CDR ROCKSTAR YAMAHA TAKES CONTROL AT MOREE 21 July 2010 CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha’s Jay Marmont delivered on his pre-event promise of ‘stamping some authority on this championship,’ with an impressive round win at round seven of the Rockstar MX Nationals held at Moree on the weekend.
Heading into the round with a 16 point lead, Marmont worked hard in the weeks leading up to the Moree event in the attempt to make it a season defining round for him and his CDR Rockstar Yamaha team. The hard work well and truly paid off with Marmont winning the day and heading into the final double header weekend at Coolum with a 40 point buffer over second place in the championship standings . The weekend started slowly for Marmont who qualified outside the top five in the morning session and struggled to settle into the challenging Moree layout. But as the laps passed, Marmont found his flow and started picking up the pace. In the first of the two back to back motos, Jay took home a pair of third place finishes, but his speed at the end of the races showed he had plenty in the tank and was ready to unleash his trademark dogged and determine rides in the final two races of the day. Motos three and four proved that to be the case, as Marmont shot from the gate and took control of the final two events taking two emphatic moto wins. His 3-3-1-1 motos scores gave him 90 points and the overall round win, his first round win for 2010. “ It’s good to get a bit of a monkey off my back and win some motos straight up. This is my first round win for the year and I had to work for it. The team and I have worked hard in the past month and it’s a good reward for everyone to come away with a win today and increase my lead in the championship,” Marmont said. “I felt pretty good in the opening races, but just wasn’t getting the starts I needed, so we moved to a different starting position for the final two races and got much better starts and I was able to make the most of it by winning the last two motos.” “This was just the kind of round I was looking for before heading into the double header at Coolum,” Marmont ends. CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha team mate Cheyne Boyd continued with his consistent season taking home fourth place for the round on the back of a solid riding performance. Boyd logged 6-5-4-5 results in the four points paying races to take fourth overall for the round but slips to sixth in the overall championship standings. Behind Marmont, is a very crowded leader board with a host of riders all circling for the final two spots on the podium. Boyd, a soft surface rider specialist, will be looking for a big weekend at the final event on the black sand at Coolum to drag himself up onto the podium. Less than 40 points separates second through to sixth in the Pro Open class. “I am a little bit disappointed with how I finished up today. I really hard to work hard on the track to generate the speed, but just couldn’t quite match it with the top three today.” “But I am really looking forward to Coolum and with six races over the two days, there is plenty of time to finish the championship on a high note and get myself on the podium,” Boyd said. Team owner Craig Dack leaves Moree encouraged by the performance of his troops, but knows the job isn’t done yet and there are still plenty of laps to be raced before this championship is put to bed. “The combination of Jay’s determination and the team to provide the bike he required really paid off at Moree. We all worked extremely hard to get the shock set up Jay has been chasing and the result on the weekend was the perfect reward for everyone,” Dack states. The scene is set for a huge final round of the Rockstar MXNationals to be held at Coolum on the Sunshine Coast this weekend. The CDR Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha Team will continue to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of their third consecutive MX National crown.
